What are my responsibilities as a tenant?

Montana law spells out your rights and responsibilities in addition to those stated in your lease.  Your responsibilities as a tenant include:

  • Maintaining the property by keeping it clean and using it properly.

  • Conducting yourself in a manner that does not unreasonably disturb other tenants or your neighbors.

  • Refraining from engaging in criminal conduct or conduct that could put other tenants or neighbors in danger.

  • Granting your landlord reasonable access to your apartment to make repairs, improvements, or inspect the property.  The law requires a landlord to give you 24 hours notice before entering your rental property.
